Shree Bhadaure School

This is the only government-run secondary school serving a very wide area (up to two days’ walk) and has about 15 feeder primary schools.

Education is only compulsory until Year 9 in Nepal and the government does not fund the salaries for teachers to teach Years 10 to 12. That means students in smaller regions are required to move to large cities such as Kathmandu or Pokhara; but most – and particularly girls – cannot afford to do so.

Providing opportunities for girls to finish their education not only improves their chances of finding work and moving out of poverty, it assists them to become community leaders.

The school currently has about 200 students, 31 of whom are supported by scholarships funded by Wilderness in Nepal. 11 live in the Boarding House, allowing them to attend school daily.
