WILDERNESS IN NEPAL
WHERE WE WORK
Wilderness in Nepal delivers its programs primarily in two remote areas of Nepal, Bahadure, and Junbesi.
Bahadure
Bahadure, in the Annapurna region, is perched amongst the hills about 2 hours from Pokhara. With some challenging road access the area is linked to more developed communities in the region, but lack of funding and a principally agricultural economy makes it difficult for young people to complete their education. Providing support to allow girls to complete their schooling offers them greater choices and opens opportunities to pursue careers within a developing economy.
Junbesi
Junbesi, in the Solukhumbu, is more remote than Bahadure. Recent work has allowed some road access but a reliable power supply is still on the horizon. Nestled in a stunning valley, passed by Sir Edmind Hillary en route to conquering Mount Everest, it is a beautiful area but was severely damaged in the 2015 earthquake. Recovery has been slow, but a desire to improve healthcare and a belief in the importance of education has energerised the community.
