WILDERNESS IN NEPAL

OUR VISION

Fringe Exhibition Nepal Timeline_FINAL_RESUPPLIED 14.02.2018.jpg

The concept of Wilderness in Nepal grew out of an initiative at Adelaide’s Wilderness School, started back in 1998, to change the lives of young women in Nepal by giving them a chance to go to school.

Our fundraising has helped these girls directly by providing scholarships and school supplies and indirectly by improving infrastructure and paying teachers at the Bahadure School in an isolated area in the Nepalese Annapurna region.

The Wilderness community has also helped establish the Kushudebu Public Health Mission, near Junbesi in the Solukhumbu region, which provides care for thousands of people in the region, some of whom must walk for up to five days to receive treatment. Following the earthquake on 2015 we have also provided significant funding for rebuilding projects in the district, including the Junbesi School.

As our impact has grown, so has interest from outside Wilderness about how we work, what we have achieved and the potential to do much more without changing the model or losing sight of our goals.

Wilderness in Nepal Ltd was established in 2015 as a framework to allow other Australians to help us in our mission of providing educational and healthcare opportunities and creating a framework for infrastructure development at a local level.

We are effective because we have realistic goals and low overheads and can rely on trusted local connections in Nepal to make best use of what we can provide and help shape our future growth. It is an arrangement built on mutual respect.

Wilderness in Nepal Ltd is a company limited by guarantee, is registered with the Australia Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) and has been endorsed by the ATO as a deductible gift recipient (DGR). It is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and supported by a growing team of volunteers and friends.

You can read more about how we work, where we work, and how you can support us, as well as catching up with the latest developments.
